Frequently Asked Questions

Monocouche spray render costs £45–£65/m² supply-and-fit on a typical UK home. A 3-bed semi works out at £6,750–£10,000. A 4-bed detached at £9,900–£14,600. Final cost depends on access, substrate condition and chosen finish. Every Surrey, Hampshire and South-East customer gets a free fixed-price quote after a site survey.

Monocouche is a one-coat, through-coloured, cement-based render applied 10–20mm thick directly to brick or block. We spray it with industrial pumps for speed and consistency, then float and scrape by hand — typically one elevation per day. Through-colouring means no separate painting stage.

A properly specified system lasts 25–30 years with no maintenance other than occasional pressure washing. Manufacturer warranties cover the first 10 years (K Rend: 25 years). The most common cause of premature failure is DIY application under 10mm thick.

For most UK properties, no — exterior rendering is permitted development. Exceptions: Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas, and Article 4 direction zones. We check your address’s planning status as part of every survey.

Sometimes yes — sound, well-bonded substrates can be over-rendered after preparation. Crumbling, blown or damp-affected pebbledash needs to come off first. We assess at survey, hammer-test problem areas, and price prep work transparently.

Most manufacturers offer 24–40 through-colours including cream, soft white, light grey, anthracite, ivory and earth tones. Custom colours are available from Weber and K Rend. Because the colour is through the render, it won’t fade — 10+ years of colour retention is standard.

A correctly specified system on a stable substrate with proper bell-cast and stop beads does not crack in normal service. Most cracking comes from poor substrate prep, missing movement joints, or applying outside the 5–30°C window.

Yes, but only when overnight temperatures stay above 5°C and no rain is forecast for 24 hours after application. October to April projects in Surrey and Hampshire are scheduled around the forecast.

We deliver all three. Scraped (the classic flat finish), ashlar (cut lines that mimic stone blocks), and sponge finished (sponge-flattened texture popular in contemporary new-builds). Pricing is identical for scraped vs sponge; ashlar adds modest setting-out time.

For a standard 3-bed semi: scaffold up day 1, prep and beads days 2–3, spray and finish days 4–6, scaffold down day 7–8. Total 5–8 working days, weather permitting. New-build developer sites move faster per house because substrate is already prepped.

We are approved installers for Weber, K Rend, Parex, Baumit, SAS, Wetherby and Fassa — all BBA-certified systems. The benefit: the manufacturer warranty travels with the install, not just the material.

Silicone thin-coat is a 1–2mm polymer-modified topcoat applied over a mesh-reinforced base coat. Compared to monocouche (10–20mm, cement-based), silicone is thinner, lighter, more crack-resistant and far more colour-stable. It’s the preferred system for self-builds, premium renovations and properties exposed to driving rain.

Silicone costs roughly 25–35% more than monocouche supply-and-fit (£60–£75/m² vs £45–£65). The premium reflects two extra coats (base coat + mesh + finish), wider colour range and longer expected lifespan.

The silicone resin is highly hydrophobic — rainwater beads off and carries dust and surface dirt with it. This dramatically reduces algae, mould and dirt staining compared to cement-based render. Most Surrey homes finished with silicone need no more than a hose-down every 3–5 years.

Yes — significantly. The reinforced base coat (alkali-resistant fibreglass mesh) and the flexible polymer topcoat absorb small structural movement that would crack cement-based render. This is why we specify silicone for properties with known movement or solid-wall EWI.

25–30 years with manufacturer warranties of 10–25 years (Weber Silicone HD: 25 years; K Rend Silicone: 25 years). Because the topcoat is paint-free, you avoid the 5–10 year repaint cycle of traditional render.

EWI fixes 60–150mm of insulation board (EPS, mineral wool or phenolic) to the outside of your wall and renders over the top. For a solid-wall home, it typically cuts heating bills by 25–40%. The Energy Saving Trust estimates £300–£500 annual savings on a semi-detached property.

Yes — the ECO4 scheme has been extended to 31 December 2026 and can fund the full installation for eligible households (low income under £31,000 or claiming Universal Credit, ESA, JSA, Housing Benefit, etc.; property must be EPC E, F or G). The Warm Homes: Local Grant adds up to £15,000 for off-gas properties in England.
